Railway Enquiry Numbers and Helplines You Should Save
139, 182 and the other numbers that connect you to a real person when you need one.

139 — the integrated helpline
139 is Indian Railways' single integrated helpline, and it is the number to try first for almost anything: train enquiry, ticket and journey complaints, catering issues, medical help on board and general assistance. It replaced a scatter of older regional numbers, so it works from anywhere in the country and is toll-free.
When you call, have your PNR and train number ready. The helpline can be busy during disruption, so if the automated menu keeps looping, the live status tool on this site answers the same "where is my train" question without waiting on hold.
182 — security on trains
182 is the railway security helpline, run by the Railway Protection Force. Use it for theft, harassment, unauthorised entry, or any safety concern on a train or at a station. It is staffed round the clock and is the correct number for a situation that needs police attention rather than timetable information.
For a medical emergency on a moving train, 139 can arrange assistance at the next station, and many long-distance trains also carry a coach attendant who can alert the guard. Knowing both numbers before you board is worth the thirty seconds it takes to save them.
Enquiry without a phone call
Most enquiries do not need a call at all. Train position and delay come from the live status page; train timetables and running days from the train pages; station information from the station pages; and waitlist status from the PNR tool. Use the phone for exceptions and complaints, and the browser for the routine questions.
If you do need a human for something the website cannot resolve, the contact page explains how to reach us — though for anything about an actual booking or ticket, IRCTC and the 139 helpline are the only parties who can change it.
