Why Station Codes Matter

Every station on the Indian Railways network has a short code — usually two to four letters — and knowing it saves real time. Ticket searches accept them without ambiguity, announcements and platform charts use them, and PNR records store them. New Delhi is NDLS, not "DEL"; Mumbai's main terminal appears as MMCT (earlier BCT); Kolkata's Howrah is simply HWH. Type a city name here and the search returns every station in it — big cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai have several, each serving different lines and train sets.

The distinction matters when you book. A Delhi–Howrah ticket from NDLS is a different journey from one leaving Hazrat Nizamuddin (NZM), even though both stations sit in the same city and some trains serve both. Long-distance passengers often save money by checking which of a city's stations their train actually stops at. Each result above opens a station page with the full picture: every train that calls there, its arrival and departure times, and links straight to live tracking for the trains running today.

Not sure which station serves your neighbourhood? Search by locality name — the database includes suburban halts and small junctions alongside the big terminals. Once you find your station, the trains between stations search shows every direct service onward, and the live status tracker tells you whether today's trains are running on time.
