Tips for Finding the Right Train

Start with station codes if you know them — they are unambiguous. "NDLS" always means New Delhi, while typing "Delhi" can match several stations in the capital and widen your results. If you only know the city name, that still works: the search shows every matching station and lets you pick. Long-distance travellers should also check nearby major junctions — a train that is sold out from New Delhi often has availability from Hazrat Nizamuddin, 20 minutes away.

Every result card shows the departure and arrival times, the total journey duration, the classes the train runs (from unreserved Second Sitting to 3AC, 2AC and First AC), and the days of the week it operates — important because many express trains run only on selected days. Tap a train to open its full stop-by-stop timetable, or jump straight to live tracking to see where it is right now. Fares shown are per adult in each class and include the catering charge where the train provides it.

Comparing two similar trains? The one with fewer halts is usually faster even if it departs earlier or later, and overnight trains save a hotel night on long routes. Once you have booked, track your PNR from the PNR status page and watch the train approach on the day of travel from the live tracker.
